This study examined the staff recruitment and selection process in the College of
Education, Katsina-Ala, Benue State. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of recruitment and selection policies and practices from 2010-2020, identify challenges, and determine the performance of staff. The study was anchored on Bureaucratic Theory as the framework of analysis. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining qualitative and quantitative data. The findings revealed that the College recruitment and selection process was plagued by irregular recruitment processes and flawed procedures, coupled with the prevalence of bias, discrimination, inefficient processing of applications, non-conformity with recruitment and selection guidelines, and political interference. The study recommended ways to improve the recruitment process within the period under review, including implementation of a merit-based system, non-interference, fostering a conducive and cordial work environment, adoption of e-recruitment, use of independent recruitment agencies, and ensuring the conduct of written tests, oral interviews, physical and medical tests. By implementing these recommendations, the college can enhance productivity, promote harmony, and ensure that the best candidates are selected for positions.
